Video Painting Unveiling Preamble.
So, we have been catapulted into the second half of the year.
This is a good thing! After such a fruitful first half I find myself thrilled at the proposition of spending my holiday break reflecting upon the plans I made and pondering (in a reclining-by-a-pool position) on how to proceed considering all I have seen and learnt thus far.
5 Questions I packed for my vacation:
How do I feel now about the Prague Art Scene?
How do I feel about the artists in the Prague Art Scene?
How do I feel about myself in the Prague Art Scene?
Is what I have discovered in the last 6 months suitably reflected in my current paintings?
What exactly is it I discovered?
My true aim is to answer these questions visually having pillaged, plundered, shuffled and cogitated my ever mutating conclusions.
The 'Artist As...' series Is a shedding of skin. Underneath I hope to reveal what it is that I and my peers have in common.
While we still seek to define ourselves we lose the 'we'; lose the universal.
Dreamer, Pioneer,Recluse, Martyr, Child, Conduit, Storyteller etc. I am all of these things and none of these things as long as I struggle intellectually with a problem which is unsolvable with words.
My latest painting is an attempt to answer one of the questions I put to myself at the beginning of the year – What does it mean to be an artist?
THE ACCEPTANCE painting revealed in the accompanying video to this blog (Artist as Artist) concerns the recognition of 'the other'; The moment when self is destroyed and one reconnects with one.
Big thank you to Ed Longmire for making the video.
I enjoy showing people the Prague art scene and what it represents and presents to us.
Simple stories. Short messages. Quick news. Small Aha! moments, guidance, encouragement and perhaps a little exhilaration.
